AIR MANIS BEACH
As a city located on the west coast of Sumatra, Padang has a number of beaches that are the destination and the attraction for the tourism sector. One of them is Sweet Water Beach. The beach is located approximately 10 km to the south from the city center.
It is located behind Padang Mountain or precisely in District Padang Selatan, Padang City. This beach is one of the popular tourist destination that is always crowded visited by the public, especially during the school holidays or Eid.
Sweet Water or in Minang dialect called 'aia manih' is a beach with a wide coastline, gentle contours, and whitish brown sand. This beach is known for its small waves and has a beautiful panorama on the north side.
At the north end of this beach we can see the mound of Mount Padang from a distance. In addition, there are two small islands namely Small Banana Island (banana ketek) and Banana Besar (banana gadang) which is not far from this coast.
In addition to the natural scenery and waves, this beach can not be separated from Legend Malin Kundang. No doubt, the legend of Malin Kundang is one of the most popular folklore of West Sumatra. Even its popularity spread to various parts of Indonesia until it has been repeatedly appointed to the screen in various versions. This wisdom story is often told as a parable about the importance of devotion to parents.
This legend tells how the wrath of a parent can lead to disaster for his disobedient son. The Malin Kundang who was described as a successful resident was recounted back to his village after years of wandering.
He returned with his great wife and ship and his servants. Narrated, when he got home in Malin reluctantly acknowledge his poor mother even mencacimaki and expel it. Because of his heartache, the mother then catapulted a curse for the Malin turned into stone.
On the south side of this beach we can see a stone that resembles a person being prostrated. This stone is believed to be a cursed Malin Kundang and that has turned into stone. Around him we can also find rocks that resemble the ruins of a ship's wall that people believe to be part of a shipwrecked Malin ship.
There are also rolls of rope and wooden barrel that looks very detailed as if it is like a rope and wooden barrel that is transformed into stone.
Regardless of the truth of this legend, the existence of the Malin Kundang stone becomes the main attraction of this beach. Although from the appearance of this beach still requires structuring, but it does not prevent the curious stream of visitors and want to see directly Batu Malin Kundang
